Donate Life SC Rose Parade Float
Sunny skies and exuberant crowds were on hand for the annual Rose Parade in Pasadena, California on January 1. The 2016 Donate Life Rose Parade Float themed “Treasure Life’s Journey” included two representatives from South Carolina. Honored were Sharon Schultz Lucas for giving the Gift of Life and tissue recipient, Miren Ivankovic.
SC Floragraph Honoree Sharon Schultz Lucas’ sisters spent time before the parade working on the Donate Life Rose Parade Float and participated in the special sand pouring ceremony at the Donate Life Rose Parade Float Floragraph Family Brunch. This sand ceremony symbolizes how all the participants come to Pasadena individually but join to make something beautiful.
Anderson University Professor, Miren Ivankovic, tissue recipient, greeted parade viewers as a rider. Miren is one of 24 people selected from across the country to participate in the Donate Life Rose Parade Float by the American Association of Tissue Banks as their float rider.WATCH VIDEO

April is Donate Life Month!
Donate Life Month is a national celebration and honors the generosity of organ, eye and tissue donors and their families. It is also a time when those who have either received or continue to wait for lifesaving transplants are commemorated. The designation of April as Donate Life Month informs the public of the need for more donors and encourages registration on the South Carolina Organ and Tissue Donor Registry.
Donate Life South Carolina, partnering with LifePoint and the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles, kicks off the month-long celebration with a joint press conference at the South Carolina State House in Columbia. These teams work together throughout the month to bring awareness to all communities and to increase the number of registered donors through planned events throughout South Carolina.
Each year during National Donate Life Month, donation and transplantation organizations and partners across the country promote the colors and raise awareness on National Donate Life Blue & Green Day. During National Donate Life Month in April, you’ll see lots of blue and green…the official Donate Life colors. This year’s Blue & Green Day celebration is Friday, April 21, 2017.
Why not join the partners, volunteers, SCDMV offices, and surrounding hospitals by taking part in the many Donate Life activities. We invite you to share the community spirit by wearing blue and green and spread the word through social media. Check back to this page often to learn more details on planned events. Contact Mark Johnson, Media Relations Coordinator for LifePoint, at 1-800-462-0755 or 843-763-7755 if you would like to share your story.
Transplant Games of America
The mission of the Transplant Games of America is to increase public awareness of the importance of organ, eye and tissue donation through the multi-sport competition for individuals who have undergone life-saving transplant surgeries and commemorates the life-giving donors.
Events at the Donate Life Transplant Games are open to living donors, bone marrow, organ transplant recipients, and corneal/tissue transplant recipients. The annual sporting challenge is a nationally unifying event that brings together the greater transplant community of donor families, healthcare providers, recipients, recovery agencies, and those awaiting transplantation.
Cleveland was a perfect host of the 2016 games as Team South Carolina reveled in the pure joy of participating in the Transplant Games of America events. We are proud of our competitors for bringing home a Record 54 Medals to the Palmetto State! While winning is great, we are also happy to see recipients honoring their gift of life and their donors by showing the world what transplantation can do! Thank you to our donor families for coming and supporting our competitors!
We invite you to view the videos highlighting the 2016 Transplant Games of America. These incredible stories reveal the compassion and bravery presented by donor recipients and donor families participating in the events.
November and December:
Public outreach to educate the citizens of South Carolina regarding the urgent need for organ and tissue donation is critical. We have a unique opportunity to encourage others to become donors during the months of November and December. This annual observance has been established to raise awareness, through religious communities, of the urgent need for organ and tissue donation.
We would like to invite you and your church to join our efforts in increasing awareness about the great need for more organ and tissue donors. As we celebrate National Donor Sabbath, we would be happy to provide you with a trained volunteer speaker in your area that is either a recipient or donor family member (if available).
Please click on the link above and fill out the attached request form to receive distribution materials that will assist in educating your church members regarding organ and tissue donation. To ensure that you receive your materials in a timely manner, please fax this form to our office at: 864-609-5387.
